The ancient castle was build by the Longobards and used by the Angevins and remained of strategic importance through to the Bourbon era and right up to the unification of Italy. Built on the hill of St Theodore, where Byzantine monks lived in the caves, Laino Castello is shown here, viewed from the Laino Borgo side.
