É filha doMezzogiorno (como é denominado o sul da Itália). Também referida como Famiglia Montalbano, Onorata Società e Picciotteria, esta é uma associação com cariz mafiosa, nascida na região da Calábria muito antes da própria unificação italiana (1861). Sabe a força que a religião católica tem naquelas terras, por isso a sua estrutura organizativa é baseada no catolicismo, que é uma forma de angariar a aceitação popular. A cúpula, a chefia da organização é denominada La Santa (em homenagem a Maria, mãe de Jesus).
