Kuelap is a monumental stone fortress built by the Chachapoya civilization in the cloud forests of northern Peru. Perched high on a mountain ridge, it features massive defensive walls, circular stone dwellings, and ceremonial structures that date back to the 6th century AD.
Often called the “Machu Picchu of the north,” Kuelap is surrounded by misty cloud forest and dramatic Andean landscapes. It remains one of Peru’s most impressive yet lesser-known archaeological sites, offering a sense of mystery and isolation amid lush high-altitude nature.
