Nikita Kruschev was the leader of the USSR between 1953 and 1964, upon which he was replaced by Leonid Brezhnev. In the West, "Uncle Niki" is best remembered by his debate with Vice President Nixon over which country had the best lives for its citizens and also for his famous shoe pounding incident at the United Nations. But of all things Kruschev is best remembered for is the Cuban Missile Crisis and his standoff with President John F Kennedy.
