Kolmanskop Namibia Postcard
Kolmanskop is a ghostly and evocative deserted diamond mining town nestled within the sands of the Sperrgebiet in southern Namibia. Established after a railway worker discovered a diamond in 1908, it quickly transformed from a simple sandpit into a opulently built German town, boasting amenities unheard of in the desert at the time, including a ballroom, power station, and a reverse osmosis water plant. However, after World War I, diamond prices dropped and richer deposits were found further south, leading to its gradual abandonment by 1956.
