Around 2017, I went to see a new doctor in my region of Ontario, Canada. Since I worked in four Ontario hospitals and also for ophthalmologists with private practices, I was fully aware of the Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA). I was gobsmacked to be given a "New Patient" form to fill out that asked HIGHLY-CONFIDENTIAL information e.g. Social Status _____________________ was at the top right corner of the page. Baffled, I put "I'm fabulous." What was I supposed to put? I'm a lowly peasant? A few years later, I went to a walk-in clinic where the doctor outright asked me: "What hospital do you work right now in?" To which I snapped: "You don't need to know that." Furthermore, this doctor told me: "Cipro does not work for the skin infection." To which I replied, "Yes, it does." In fact, I've heard of several cases where the proper gram negative-fighting antibiotics were either not prescribed or were discontinued. As such, with the impending push for digital ID, I caution all to reject it. And to guard your Social Insurance Numbers or Social Security Numbers (depending on what they are called in your country) from being used by nefarious doctors and institutions.
