i'd wandered on edisto beach for an hour, looking for the perfect shell. right after "giving up" and turning around to head back toward the car, i spotted this knobbed whelk, which i'd passed not five minutes earlier. funny how we sometimes notice things once we stop looking for them, isn't it?
