King Richard II was a child when he came to the English throne. His father, Edward the Black Prince, had predeceased King Edward III. As a result when King Edward died, Richard inherited the throne from his grandfather. He was ultimately removed from it as an adult by his cousin, Henry Bolingbroke, and was starved to death in Pontefract Castle.
