About This Design
Juvenile Bald Eagle on WWII Telephone Pole Postcard
Bald eagles don't get their characteristic white heads and tails until their 4th year. This juvenile bald eagle with the mottled plumage which is typical of the immature eagles was perched on a telephone pole on Bunker Hill which was left over from WWII. Telephone poles were banned from use on Unalaska Island in the 1990's and all cables are now buried. In uninhabited areas of the island some of the old telephone poles still remain standing as a reminder of yesteryear methods of communication. There are over 600 bald eagles on Unalaska Island.
