Jules Cheret’s art nouveau poster “Palais de Glace”. Jules Cheret was born to a poor artisan family in Paris. Because of his poverty he had little formal training. He began his career as an apprentice lithographer. During his long career Cheret created hundreds of posters for theatres and cabarets as well as for theatre troupes and commercial products. Although his paintings did receive some success it is his posters for which he is known today.
