John Maclean Scottish Independence T-Shirt

This t-shirt pays homage to the great Scottish revolutionary socialist John Maclean (1879-1923). Born in Pollokshaws, Glasgow, the former schoolteacher fought long and hard for the rights of the common people, ending up in prison for his beliefs. He was elected to the chair of the Third All-Russian Congress of Soviets in 1918 when he was made Bolshevik consul in Scotland. He founded the Scottish Workers Republican Party and supported Scottish independence. His health was broken in prison and he died aged 44. Loved by the people, over 20,000 lined the streets at his funeral. The design on the t shirt is based on an image from a Russian stamp struck in honour of the great man. It shows a black and white portrait of Maclean together with the Scottish flag and the words ‘Scottish Workers Republic 2014.’ This is a reference to the 2014 referendum on independence for Scotland from the United Kingdom government. The tshirt would be the perfect gift for friends and family who support independence, have socialist leanings and who are likely to vote yes.
