John Clare - Remembrances T-Shirt

A quote from John Clare's poem "Remembrances," where he recalls his carefree childhood.: "O words are poor receipts for what time hath stole away..." Clare was born in Helpston, six miles to the north of the city of Peterborough, England on July 13, 1793, where he witnessed many massive changes to both town and countryside as the Industrial Revolution swept through Europe. Clare deeply felt the loss of a centuries-old way of life and his love of nature and the countryside of his childhood found its eternal home in his poetry. A century later, Clare's genius would be recognized and "The Northamptonshire Peasant Poet" is now regarded as an important 19th century poet.
