The Tom Madsen Airport in Dutch Harbour, Alaska is located at the southern foot of Ballyhoo Mountain. The western end of the runway, shown here in this photo, has a background view of the Makushin Mountains. Jets and other aircraft landing and taking off from Dutch Harbour must deal with strong winds, which they try to use to their advantage, using a tail wind to take off and a head wind to land. This jet is leaving on a clear day in winter, which is rare for Unalaska Island.
