Jesus Salvator mundi Andrea Previtali CC0986 Postcard
Andrea Previtali (1480–1528) Salvator Mundi, 1519 (close up).
Andrea Previtali was an Italian painter of the Renaissance period, active mainly in Bergamo. He is also called Andrea Cordelliaghi.
The title of the painting, Salvator Mundi, is Latin for Saviour of the World. It is a subject in the Christian iconography depicting Christ with his right hand raised in blessing and his left hand holding an orb surmounted by a cross, known as a globus cruciger. The orb symbolizes the Earth.
