Jane Avril by Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, colour lithograph print on paper 1893, is a classic poster of the famous and eccentric cabaret dancer of late 19th century Montmartre in Paris, dancing on stage with one leg kicking in the air, framed by a stylized border incorporating a foreground musician with cello and sheet music. Lautrec created an excellent example of the art nouveau of popular and applied arts, and an icon of the romanticism of the Parisian avant garde.
