Ivory-billed Woodpecker Poster

This large Ivory-billed Woodpecker is critically endangered, in fact it was thought to be extinct at one point. The ivory colore bill and red tuft on the top of the head with white splashes across the wings makes for a beautiful bird, it's just a shame it's so rare. The last universally accepted sighting in the United States was back in 1944 and the last universally accepted sighting in Cuba was in 1987, so even if they are not extinct yet it won't be long if there isn't some type of conservation program to save these. The scientific name for the Ivory-billed Woodpecker is Campephilus principalis and its nickname in the past has been the 'Lord God Bird'. The decision to de-list this bird has been postponed until they can research more, as recently some have produced trail cam footage and sound recordings and even some drone footage that suggest there are still some in existance. The primary reason for their decline is probably no surprise, habitat loss which is primarily old growth forests in the United States. The Ivory-billed Woodpecker diet consists of beetle larvae, particularly those found within dead or dying trees. They also consume fruits and nuts, including pecans, acorns. It is estimated they can live up to 20 years but there is no definitive proof, it's probably a reasonable estimate though. There are no Ivory-billed Woodpeckers in captivity.
