Indian Peace Flag Coffee Mug

I recreated this mysterious flag from American history from one of the only existing flags of its kind left. There was an old museum piece that was in very bad shape that I was captivated by, so I decided to paint the design from sketches I did from photos. Torn and distressed, the vintage flag looked like it was from the very early period of the Republic, but it was more likely made in the mid Nineteenth Century according to the expert explaining the piece to me. These flags were evidently presented to native tribes by representatives of the US government as a peace offering. The timeline where they were used makes it possible that the Lewis & Clarke expedition could have carried them, but there is no evidence they actually did.
