In the Luxembourg Gardens 1879 John Singer Sargent Postcard

The artist, John Singer Sargent, was an American artist, and was considered the "leading portrait painter of his generation" for his evocations of Edwardian era luxury. During his career, he created roughly 900 oil paintings and more than 2,000 watercolors, as well as countless sketches and charcoal drawings. His oeuvre documents worldwide travel, from Venice to the Tyrol, Corfu, the Middle East, Montana, Maine, and Florida. He received world-wide fame, but was launched with some controversy! His Portrait of Madame X started quite the scandal. His work was known for the great technical facility, especially his wonderful ability to draw with a brush. He did many commissioned portraiture and did so in a grand fashion.
