Hyde park Corner Postcard

Hyde Park Corner is the confluence of six major London roads. In its centre stands the Wellington Arch. Built as a memorial to Duke of Wellington, and forming a grand entrance into London, it was originally the north west entrance to the grounds of Buckingham Palace. The gilded statue on the top is the Angel of Peace. This photograph was taken from the western side, where the pedestrian approach 'leads' the eye in a gently curve towards the monument. It is a clear sunny day, and the viewer is invited to visit the monument or simply sit on the grass and gaze at its magnificence.
