Two Hummingbirds Above a White Orchid (c. 1870s) by Martin Johnson Heade is a vintage fine art still life nature painting. Two birds sitting on a tree branch perched over a blooming white orchid flower in a tropical rainforest. A beautiful landscape with palm trees and mountains in the distance.
About the artist:
Martin Johnson Heade (1819-1904) was a prolific American painter during the Victorian Era known for his salt marsh landscapes, seascapes, tropical birds, lotus blossoms and other still lifes. His painting style was derived from the romanticism of the time. A deep reverence for nature attracted him to the Luminist school of painting. Luminism, in its concern with the effect of light, is now seen as a precursor of Impressionism.
