The seal alludes to the myth of the Greek god of the underworld, Hades, in the following ways: 1) The "U" is shaped like the end of the two-pronged sceptre used to depict Hades in Greek and Roman art. 2) The dots near the periphery refer to the pomegranate seeds Hades gifts Persephone to trick her into staying in the underworld as his wife. 3) Cerberus is the three-headed dog in charge of guarding the gates of the underworld. He makes sure no human leaves or enters. 4) The five stars refer to the five realms of the underworld: Tartarus, Elysium, the Fields of Asphodel, the Vale of Mourning, and the Fields of Punishment.
