Ho Chi Minh City (HCM City), formerly known as Saigon, is Vietnam’s largest and most dynamic metropolis. One of Ho Chi Minh City’s most iconic landmarks is the Notre-Dame Cathedral Basilica of Saigon, a stunning red-brick cathedral located in the heart of District 1. Built by the French between 1863 and 1880, the cathedral features two towering bell spires and stained-glass windows, reflecting classic French Gothic architecture. The materials, including the red bricks, were imported from France, adding to its historical significance. In front of the cathedral stands a statue of the Virgin Mary, which is a popular site for both worship and photography.
