Horseshoe crabs are ancient animals that come onto the beaches to lay eggs in the spring. Migratory shore birds depend on this rich source of energy to "beef up" for the next leg of their journey. Once endangered, they are now protected by law. Scientists are researching their blood as a possible source for a cure to cancer.
