Hope in a Prison of Despair (1887) by Evelyn De Morgan is a vintage Victorian Era Pre-Raphaelite mythology fine art portrait painting. Hope's saint-like halo suggests the comfort brought by religious faith. Hope as a very young man, or possibly a woman, is holding a lamp and entering the dungeon where Despair is shown as another human figure bowed down with deep sadness and grief. About the artist: Evelyn De Morgan (Evelyn Pickering) (1855-1919) was an English PreRaphaelite painter who often painted mythological scenes.

I was originally happy about my purchase and Nana loved the gift. HOWEVER, the description specifically says that these are microwave and dishwasher safe, BUT the first time Nana put this mug in the dishwasher it was destroyed. Not impressed..
