Chartered as Cortland Academy in 1919, it became Homer Academy & Union School in 1874. The building shown here was built in 1869 and burned down in 1893. Notable for educating women as well as men, the Academy educated the likes of Francis B. Carpenter, William Osborn Stoddard, and countless activists in the abolitionist movement and other social reform initiatives.
