The HMS Inflexible was built at Portsmouth and launched on April 27, 1876. It was the first battleship to have submerged torpedo tubes and compound armour. It was constructed in the 1870s for the Royal Navy to oppose the perceived growing threat from the Italian Regia Marina in the Mediterranean. It served at Alexandria engaging Forts Pharos and Ada, and was the most heavily damaged of all the ships present during the exchange. It was paid off to the Reserve Fleet in January 1919 before being decommissioned on March 31, 1920. It was sold for scrap on December 1, 1921, and scrapped in Germany the following year.
