The former Waldstein Riding School with its red-tiled roof stands behind a large, serene pond featuring a central fountain with statues in Prague,Czech Republic. This early baroque garden of the strictly geometric design was built concurrently with and adjacent to the Wallenstein Palace (1623–1629). The courtyard is bordered with neatly trimmed hedges and symmetrical arches, creating a harmonious architectural scene. The building now consists of exhibition facilities of the National Gallery, open only for exhibitions. Wallenstein is a branch of the Waldstein family. Wallenstein Palace is a Baroque palace in the Malá Strana district of Prague, that served as a residence for Imperial Generalissimo Albrecht von Wallenstein and now houses the Senate of the Czech Republic. When the palace was built between 1623 and 1630, Italian architects and artisans were used. The Wallenstein Palace garden features a fountain with a bronze statue of Venus and a gallery of bronze statues by Adrian de Vries. The statues are replicas of the original ones which were taken away by the Swedish army at the end of the Thirty Years’ War. The statues were taken to the Drottningholm Palace, near Stockholm. Only Benedikt Wurzelbauer’s Venus statue was returned to Wallenstein Palace by the Swedes.
