Historic Sell's Mill at Hoschton Georgia Postcard

Historic Sell's Mill at Hoschton Georgia Postcard

This postcard features historic Sell's Mill at Hoschton, Georgia. In 1815, Jonathan Sell purchased 500 acres around Indian Creek. He married Rebecca Jones and they had six sons. Leonidus Franklin, the youngest of six, was born in 1862. Later, in 1885, Leonidus Franklin returned to Jackson County to reestablish the family farm. Frank purchased an additional 700 acres and planted cotton, corn, wheat, and oats. Frank Sell dammed up Indian Creek, built a three story mill and a new house. It became a town gathering place, Sell's Mill not only ground grain but produced electricity for a growing farming community. Frank Sell married Angie Maynard in 1900 and although the couple had no children of their own, they raised five children in their home that still stands today. In 2000, the Jackson County Parks and Recreation Department purchased the mill and surrounding property. The main feature of this Jackson County park, the mill was able to grind grain after renovations were completed in 2007. The Sell's Mill Park pavilion and mill building are available for rent for special events.
