Hermannsdenkmal, also known as the Hermann Monument or Arminius Monument, is a colossal statue located in the Teutoburg Forest near Detmold, Germany. This iconic monument was constructed in the late 19th century to commemorate Arminius, a Cherusci chieftain who led a coalition of Germanic tribes to victory over the Roman legions at the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest in 9 CE. Construction of the monument began in 1838, under the supervision of Ernst von Bandel, a sculptor who envisioned a colossal statue of Arminius atop a hill.
