Henri Rousseau The Tropics print. Oil painting on canvas circa 1905-1910. French artist Henri Rousseau painted dozens of tropical scenes throughout his career. The Tropics is one of his many charming monkey paintings. Like Exotic Landscape, the work features a family of monkes sitting in an orange grove. The trees above are heavy with ripe fruit. A few small monkeys climb in the branches, while two larger monkeys sit in the thick tropical grass sharing an orange.
