Helene Schjerfbeck Blue Madonna 1943 Postcard
Helene Schjerfbeck was a Finnish painter, widely known for her realist works and nearly abstract self-portraits.
El Greco, the Greek Renaissance painter, was Schjerfbeck's inspiration for this work. In 1942 she studied a copy of The burial of the Count of Orgaz and became interested in the face of the madonna. She made several versions of this face, this is the final version.
