Helen Allingham (1848 - 1926) The Staircase, Whittington Court, Gloucestershire. Helen Allingham (née Helen Mary Elizabeth Paterson) was an English watercolor painter and illustrator of the Victorian era. I like the atmosphere of this painting, it is so cosy and intimate. You see an old-fashioned hall with a wooden staircase and beautiful leaded windows that filters and softens the light. A woman in a white dress is standing in the stairway and she seems to have some kind of a silent communication with her cat. I think I would use this postcard to announce that I have got myself a new cosy home.
