Hawaii Green Sand Beach Postcard

Green Sands Beach - a famous destination on a famous Hawaiian island. Olivine crystals create the green hue at this southernmost point of the United States on "The Big Island" the island of Hawaii. Located in the windswept Ka'u District, this beach requires not only a hike in from the road, but a climb down a cliff to actually access the water. Ka'u is a desert climate, one of the twelve (some say 13) distinct climate zones on The Big Island. A common erroneous belief is that Key West, Florida, is the southern-most point of land America, but that popular location in The Keys can claim that distinction and title only for the mainland USA.
