Hatsuhana Under Tonosawa Waterfall Kuniyoshi Fine Postcard
This selection is from stories of wise and virtuous women This print illustrates Hatsuhana doing penance under the Tonozawa waterfall for the cure of her son's knee, until the austerities killed her. Miraculously cured, Hatsuhana's son seeks revenge, killing his arch-enemy near the waterfall.
Utagawa Kuniyoshi (ca. 1797 - April 14, 1861) was one of the last great masters of the Japanese ukiyo-e style of woodblock prints and painting and belonged to the Utagawa school.
