Harlequin Ducks, Unalaska Island Postcard
Two male harlequin ducks keep a female with her head tucked in company on a rock. Below them another male duck glides past in the water. Harlequin ducks live in the bays of Unalaska Island all year long. The females are a plain brown with a white spot on their heads. The males are the colourful ones, with complex designs on their bodies in red, grey, white and black coloured feathers. Harlequin ducks are a native species of the Aleutian Islands as well as coastal Alaska.
