It consists of three parts; the white background, the red and blue circle in the centre which form the symbols "yin and yang" and four trigrams, one in each corner of the flag. The white background means peace. The red and blue circle in the centre is called "Taeguk", which is the origin of all things in the universe; Perfect harmony and balance. The blue part (Yin) represents all the negative aspects of the balance. The red part (Yang) describes all the positive aspects. Bringing together the negative and the positive into a circle represents unity, while the Yin and Yang represent duality; i.e., heaven and hell, fire and water, life and death, night and day, good and evil. The 4 trigrams in the corners (called Kwe) represent the concept of opposites and balance. They represent heaven, earth, water and fire.
