Khamsa hand symbol with Hubble telescope photograph of Hubble ACS Image of NGC 3603. NGC 3603 is an open cluster of stars situated in the Carina spiral arm of the Milky Way around 20,000 light-years away from the Solar System. Hamsa, a popular amulet in the Middle East and North Africa, also romanized as Khamsa. It is a palm-shaped commonly used in jewellery and wall hangings. Depicting the open right hand, an image recognized and used as a sign of protection in many societies throughout history, the hamsa is believed to provide defence against the evil eye.
