Standing tall over the capital city, Hallgrímskirkja is Iceland's largest church and most recognizable architectural landmark. Designed by Guðjón Samúelsson, its unique tiered facade was inspired by the basalt lava columns found throughout the country's natural landscape.
The church serves as a sentinel over Reykjavík, with its towering steeple visible from almost every corner of the city. In front of the entrance stands a grand statue of Leif Erikson, adding a sense of historical weight to this modern masterpiece of design.
