Guerrilla Gardener T-Shirt

Our t shirt pays homage to the guerrilla gardening movement in the UK which aims to cultivate unloved public spaces, transforming them from no go areas to places of natural beauty, filled with flowers and/or vegetables. Often working at night, groups of community minded people have breathed new life into urban jungles, planting wild flowers and cultivating the land. We couldn’t think of a more fitting image to promote the idea than our version of the life-size bronze statue by sculptor Malcolm Robertson erected in memory of the Lumberjills, The Women’s Timber Corps set up in Scotland during the Second World War. Part of the Women’s Land Army, these women took on the jobs of the men who went to war. Affectionately known as Lumberjills, they chopped down trees and sawmilled timber all over Scotland to assist the war effort. The statue shows a lumberjill with her right hand raised to her face to shield her eyes from the sun as she looks off into the distance. She’s clasping an axe in her left hand. The sculpture is located at David Marshall Lodge Visitor Centre near Aberfoyle in the beautiful natural surroundings of Queen Elizabeth Forest Park. We’ve brushed a touch of golden highlights in her hair, and added the caption Guerrilla Gardener. The t shirt would make the perfect gift for anyone with green fingers and who loves gardens and gardening.
