Grey-Striped Dog in Cusco, Peru Postcard

A grey-striped dog rests on a sidewalk near the Plaza de Armas in Cusco, Peru, a city in southeastern Peru, near the Urubamba Valley of the Andes mountain range. Another spelling is Cuzco. Many dogs roam Cusco and are often found sitting in front of residential and shop doors and in parks. Cusco, sitting at an elevation of 11,200 feet (3,400 metres), is the capital of the Cusco Region as well as the Cuzco Province. Its population is almost half a million people. Cusco was the site of the historic capital of the Inca Empire. UNESCO named Cusco a World Heritage Site in 1983. It is designated as the Historical Capital of Peru by the Constitution of Peru. Two million people visit Cusco every year.
