Goryokaku Fort Japan Postcard

Goryokaku is a massive, star-shaped Western-style fort built during the final years of the Edo period. Now a public park, its unique pentagonal geometry is best appreciated from the nearby Goryokaku Tower, especially during spring when over 1,600 cherry blossom trees bloom along its moats, turning the entire fort into a pink star. The site holds deep historical significance as the location of the final battle of the Boshin War. Today, it serves as a peaceful retreat where the rigid military architecture of the past is softened by the organic beauty of seasonal flora and the shimmering waters of the surrounding moat.
