Gonarezhou National Park Zimbabwe Postcard

Established in 1975, Gonarezhou National Park in southeastern Zimbabwe is a protected wilderness area spanning 5,053 square kilometres. The name Gonarezhou, which means "place of elephants," is fitting as the park is home to a significant population of these magnificent creatures. Part of the Great Limpopo Transfrontier Park, it shares borders with Kruger National Park in South Africa and Limpopo National Park in Mozambique, allowing for wildlife migration across borders. Beyond its elephants, Gonarezhou is renowned for its iconic sandstone cliffs, particularly the dramatic Chilojo Cliffs that line the Runde River, and its diverse wildlife including wild dogs, lions, leopards, rhinos, and over 400 species of birds. The park offers a truly wild and untamed safari experience, emphasizing its vast size and low visitor numbers. With the mighty Save, Runde, and Mwenezi Rivers flowing through its landscape, Gonarezhou’s ecosystems range from mopane woodlands and mahogany forests to spectacular floodplains and ironwood thickets.
