Gold Splashes and Cream Siberian Iris on Purple Round Pillow

This design features a romantic cream and purple Siberian iris on a purple (almost eggplant or auburgine) background, accented with gold splashy dots. I love the near luminescence and diverse textures and shapes in iris blooms. The purple falls of this iris were especially beautiful in the late afternoon light. Some say that the flower takes the name from the Greek word for a rainbow, perhaps because of the diverse species and colours. I love how the iris comes marching along, just when the tulips and daffodils are waning, to provide so much showy colour for weeks. There are around 260–300 species of flowering plants in the Iris genus, many with showy flowers. The iris takes its name from the Greek word for a rainbow, which is also the name for the Greek goddess of the rainbow, Iris. Some authors state that the name refers to the wide variety of flower colours found among the many species. Irises often have a rich velvety texture, with petal-like flags and fuzzy "beards."
