About This Design
Girl Playing the Mandolin (by Berthe Morisot) Doormat
This design features a painting by the French Impressionist artist Berthe Morisot (1841–1895). It shows a young girl with a mandolin on her lap. The girl is wearing a white dress and she has brown hair. A mandolin is a musical instrument with strings that are plucked with a pick. A mandolin generally has four courses of doubled strings tuned in unison, thus giving a total of eight strings; it usually has the same tuning as a violin, with each of the courses having an interval of perfect fifths. The mandolin is related to similar instruments such as the mandola, octave mandolin, mandocello and mandobass; it is more distantly related to the lute. The original art was painted in 1890. It uses various shades of brown and beige to achieve its effect.
