This Neoclassicism, cityscape painting titled, The Roman antiquities, t. 1, Plate XXI. Arch of Janus. was made by Giovanni Battista Piranesi in 1756 while at Italy. he was in Rome with Marco Foscarini, the Venetian envoy to the Vatican. He resided in the Palazzo Venezia and studied under Giuseppe Vasi, who introduced him to the art of etching and engraving.
