Giant Magnolias on a Blue Velvet Cloth (Heade) Tile
This design features an image of an oil painting by American artist Martin Johnson Heade (1819–1904). It is a still-life showing beautiful big magnolia blooms on velvet cloth. The flowers appear lush and sensual with their bright colour and curving contours. They are symbols of opulence and luxury, but they are also symbols of romantic love and enduring devotion. The original painting was completed in 1890.
