A vintage engraving by William Lizars of the skeleton of extinct Irish Elk or Giant Deer (Megacerous hibernicus) of Ireland originally published in a natural history book circa the 1830's. The giant elk ranged from Ireland to the borders of Italy. The Irish Elk or Giant Deer was a species of Megaloceros and one of the largest deer that ever lived.
