This photo was taken on the western beach in Dutch Harbour, Alaska. The ghostly mountains in the background are on the south side of Pyramid Valley on Unalaska Island. In winter the heavy cloud cover creates a strange twilight which gives the mountains an ephemeral appearance like ghosts haunting the horizon.
