Germany bulit approximately 1528 U-Boats from 1914 to 1945. By the end of World War I there were 360 U-Boats built. Lessions learned from the "Great War" Germany went on to build 1,168 U-Boats during World War II. There primary mission to sink merchant vessels. 14 Million Tons of shiping was sunk in both World Wars. During World War II 3,000 Allied ships 175 warships; 2,825 merchant ships were sunk by the U-Boat.
