General Oglethorpe Hotel Golf Club Wilmington Isl Postcard
Vintage postcard illustrated by the Tichnor Brothers in the 1930s-40s, of The General Oglethorpe Hotel and Golf Club on Wilmington Island, Savannah, GA. Built in 1926-27, a Spanish style luxury resort and golf club, built by Henry Walthour, was an elite attraction for union bosses to wine, dine, play golf, and mess around. It was relatively exclusive between 1961 - 1982, and the story is, the construction was financed by Al Capone. As well as a rumour that Jimmy Hoffa was slain and buried on the site.
